Byre – perfect for one or two couples

Encouraged by the enthusiasm of our wonderful guests we converted what was once the cowshed (or byre) into self-catering accommodation in the idyllic Brecon Beacons setting. This two-bedroom cottage is perfect for one or two couples or a family/group of four/five, and as both bedrooms are equal in size and stature, there is no need to quibble over who gets the best one!

This tastefully furnished two-master-bedroomed stone dwelling with solid oak beams throughout and flagstone floor belies its lowly beginnings. It provides an open plan living area with double height sitting room complemented by French windows looking out towards Pen y Fan and the Brecon Beacons.

A wood-burning stove ensures the place is warm and cosy should the weather be inclement with comfy seating to relax and enjoy the views, the company and the conversation. The dining area enables you to enjoy romantic meals prepared in the well-equipped kitchen; or you might choose to come back from a day out on the hills to a hearty stew that has been cooking in the oven on the wood burning stove.

A solid oak staircase will lead the way up to one of the spacious super-king bedroom suites complete with pedestal bath in the bedroom so you can enjoy a soak and the views across the valley to the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons.  The en-suite is fitted with a walk-in shower, loo and basin.

Downstairs a corridor leads to the other super-king bedroom and separate bathroom, the former having French windows onto the patio and views across to the Brecon Beacons and the latter fitted with a bateau bath, separate large walk-in shower, loo and washbasin.  As in our other places, towels will be provided and, for those staying for a week or more, bathrobes too.

Underfloor heating means you can kick off your walking boots at the door and enjoy the warmth permeating through the flagstones. Both French windows lead onto the patio that runs the length of the property where you’ll be able to sit outside and enjoy the changing scenery or rustle up a meal on the barbecue.

What Our Clients Say

We had a wonderful time at The Byre. The converted barn is beautiful and comfortable and perfectly located with most trails and attractions within 30 mins drive. It is exactly what we needed: a quiet place surrounded by nature. Special mention to Amanda and her husband; thank you for the welcome chocolate cake….it lasted less than five minutes and was delicious. We will recommend the Byre to people looking for the perfect place to stay in the Brecon Beacons.

The Blua Family

If I converted a barn into a home, I would hope to do it as well as this. Super comfortable for two couples, with separate bathrooms and a shared open plan living area and kitchen. All superbly designed and equipped for cosy indoor living, or, when the weather is fine, expanding out onto the large decked area to enjoy the panoramic views of the Brecon Beacons. Definitely not your run of the mill holiday rental, a true gem to be enjoyed regularly. Thank you.

Smyths & Molsons

Well where do we begin? You gave us the most amazingly warm welcome (and an amazing chocolate cake) we instantly felt at ease and at home. The barn has to be the most beautiful place we have ever stayed. You really have thought of every little detail. The log fire kept us nice and cosy after our long days out, enjoying what you have to offer on your doorstep. Thank you so very much for everything and will see you again.

Where to start? Honestly where? Argoed Barn’s – our new place of sanctuary. The setting – glorious, peaceful, serene, idyllic, picturesque!! The people – two of the kindest humans to own a business. Amanda and Barney were so understanding when our lives came to dust. We re-organised our trip – twice – due to major heart surgery. We were received as friends. Such caring people with fantastic humour. The barn – WOW JUST WOW. Just bring clothes and food. That is all. This barn is a home from home. The beds are plush. The baths are plush. The underfloor heating – truly amazing and the fire, well . The barn is dog friendly. The people are dog friendly. Oh also – the shower The views are amazing. Amanda and Barney can’t do enough for you. I fully recommend. 10/10 and 5star comfort. We could live here, in this barn alone. It’s absolutely stunning. The decor is true country. The guest book speaks for itself. The list of activities around Argoed Barn is extensive. Expect quiet? Expect quality? That’s what Argoed Barn is all about.
